Monday called for an impromptu trip to the moss oak covered streets of downtown Savannah. It still amazes me everyday that I live here. What started out as errands, ended up as play time involving food and lots of laughs downtown. We started out at The Public Kitchen and Bar located in the heart of downtown. It’s contemporary fresh American fare aside with a great friend made for a fabulous Monday surprise. It’s a fun atmosphere with an artsy flare. We split their famous muscles dish served with a side of crostini in a light and tasty sauce to top it off. We also split the Ham and Brie melt served on sourdough with fresh apple, spinach, and sweet creole mustard. I must say, this sandwich left my taste buds extremely satisfied. A perfect palette for a warm summers day in the low country. Next stop, the Gryphon Tea Room. This place took me by complete surprise, with its intimate elegance. I felt as if I was in a different era. What once was an original apothecary, is now the Gryphon Tea Room. It is still adorned with the original woodwork and Tiffany lanterns that charm the walls. Gryphon is the premier café of the Savannah College of Art and Design to whom is awarded for the captivating décor. The delectable café menu offers signature favorites and fresh, seasonal offerings of rich, organic ingredients from local places. We got a slice of pineapple and coconut pie with a graham cracker crust along with a rich and decadent chocolate torte with a side of espresso. The menu is always changing, so you never know what you may get. Tea and scones is always a staple to their menu. After an unexpected day of belly laughs, heart to heart talks about life in general, and an impromptu dessert date with two special people, we ponder on how blessed we are to live in one of the prettiest places in the south. It’s funny how the most unexpected times are some of the best. Monday’s don’t always have to be bad!
